The Marfa Lights can't help but appear. From the location by the side of U.S. Hwy 90, one looks from high across low terrain toward U.S. 67 running N-S between Presidio and Marfa. Ac cars roller coaster over the rolling hills in that stretch, their lights illuminate the landscape and the sky, alternately. A cloud deck at the right altitude really accentuates the effect.

I hope you are down there for more than the lights. Big Bend National Park is one of the best places on earth to be this time of year. A close second is Big Bend State Natural Area, between the park and Presidio.

You also could go bathing at Chinati Hot Springs, clothing optional. Wonderful, rustic resort out toward the twin oases of Ruidosa and Candelaria west of Presidio. If you are brave, you can drive the Pinto Canyon Road down from Marfa to Ruidosa, but most folks take the paved road out from Presidio. Pavement does not extend to Candelaria.

Wow, I've got to get down to Texas and Big Bend next winter.
