Neil - by all means, shoot the messenger. then, I won't have to do the drain, drop and flush the gas tank project here. seriously, though, you are wise to look before you leap. IIRC, the driver and passenger foot well section tees between the seats as a single piece. when I recovered the rear floor in my `85 I had enough left to run between the front seats. I then used the original center piece to replace the battery lid cover. with the carpet and unde-rlayment removed, vacuum and clean the hasn't been seen since factory floor with a mild detergent. take the carpet section(s) to the car wash if only for a rinse. drain and shop vac the residual moisture. maybe a hair dryer will help speed up drying. you might still have to lay down towels after re-installing in the Van. depending on the climate, there will probably be some level of corrosion on the actual floor. look closely - what you can see will be worse under the paint. hopefully, the gas pedal mount location will be the worst, if any. sand off surface rust, apply POR 15, spray on a little Dupli-color. between now and then, you can contemplate sound and heat insulation products before the carpet goes down. in short, like any other project, it'll go as far as you let it. carrot on a stick = bare feet really like that nice, clean carpet ! h t h mike

Subject: Cockpit Carpet, Westfalia, 1990
I'm planning to remove my carpet and am wondering how big of a project it
is.
Can anyone tell me how many sections there are?
Also,
Is it imperative that I remove the front cabinet in order to remove the
driver's side section?
It appears the front cabinet isn't extremely tight against the pedestal but
I cannot tell if the carpet is secured down in the outer corner.
While I'm 'at it'. What kind of maintenance, inspection, changes should I
make on the deck or surroundings while the carpet is out?
Please/thanks!
