As a Friday topic many of us look for roadside assistance one time or another. Coach-Net is like the AAA of the RV community and I have used them since my 2nd RV back in 1999. Last week, (2/17) we left New York in the Motor Home to go to Florida for the Daytona 500 and to do some work on Mom's house. While traveling through Rocky Mount NC we smelled what we first thought was brakes. The smell lingered. Then we realized it was us! Pulled over. In a few minutes bedroom filled with smoke. Turned out an exhaust pipe broke and set the rear bedroom closet floor on fire and melted the left rear taillight and wiring. Fire extinguisher took care of that. Anyway Coach-Net towed my RV to Byrds towing-truck repair at no cost. Mind you towing this beast required a truck with a long under reach hook, removing the drive shaft, and connecting air to release the rear brakes. Anyway, Byrds took care of the exhaust for a very reasonable price and I was back on the road by noon the next day. Byrds also let us sleep in the RV in their lot. Luckily our furnaces worked since it like 5F outside. Anyway so next night we just get into Georgia and we have right front tire blow out. Called Coach-net again. No problems. I needed a tire and a wheel. They even helped locate both. They towed us to the Loves truck stop at the next exit as they had a wheel. I bought the wheel, and then they towed me to a TA truck stop that had the tire. Yes I paid dearly for that tire but I was back on the road. But anyway, that was service.
The towing plan for the RV which also includes the family vehicles is only about $100/year. They tow to the nearest qualified facility, not a preset mileage. It is worth looking into.
