Not me personally, but I've heard of that happening to friends. And I've found the balls and cage pieces by the side of the road in the aftermath of this happening. The joint kind of explodes and the balls and cage come out so that there is no longer any transmission of power from the drive shaft to the wheel. The sound you hear in the aftermath when you let out the clutch are the parts of the CV joint bouncing around, one inside the other minus the balls that connect them. I guess it's the cage that actually has to fail to let the balls come out. let us know what you find.
