1/2 cm sounds right to me. You may have left off the spacer on the spindle that the oil seal rides on on the driver's side.

I'm doing my rotors and bearings (first time). The driver side rotor went on fine. The passenger side is different. I put the rotor on as far as it will go and there is a gap about 1/2 cm between the rotor and the dust shield. No gap on drivers side.

Any ideas before I beat it to death with a hammer?
