The Weddle conversion kit has a taller r&p so even with reusing the 4 speed 4th as the new 5th you would still get lower rpms on the highway in top gear. Depending on your engine and van model you may not be able to pull a top gear much taller than that as much as you might hope. In contrast Don's old 5 speed from 83 diesel vans has a very much lower r&p set so even though it uses a 5th much taller than the wbx 4th he still runs slightly more rpm in top gear with it than with a wbx 4 speed.

I do wonder what Weddle thinks people will do for a shifter. Another company has been selling 5 speeds with a modified lock-out guide to go in the Vanagon 4 speed shift box to replace the one welded in there at the factory.

The AAP 5 speed has the tallest overall top gear of the various models though never used in USA/CA Vanagons.
