I got my ‘new’ 82 diesel hightop out of the PO yard and onto a trailer yesterday … its the SYRO hightop with westy interior … the fridge and stove look like they’v never been used … the body has rust spots but i’m pretty confident I won’t have to have metal replaced … the odometer says 170000 km … (I think KM) … anyway, on my 82 pop-top there are three little black flips on the drivers side … like, the big black power cord comes out of one and city water and hose connection … and on the ‘new’ 82 there aren’t 3 flaps but only two … and they are a different shape … one has the door missing and it has a locking cap … if on the other 82 they measure … maybe 4 x 3 on this one it’s 4 x 6 … where the first number runs from front to back … the other door on the new 82 … is power I think … it is 12 to 18” higher up the side of the camper than in the other 82 .. and I would only briefly look at it but it was sort of a yellow plug with the round kind prongs that european plugs have … i’m concerned that maybe the fridge will be 220v/12v/propane and not 110v/12v/propane …

Anyone know about euro spec vanagons …

the cabinetry is identical to my poptop 82 … that is, the cabinets for the fridge wardrobe etc.. look identical .. but up in the high top … about the driver’s seat there is a sort of shelf thing with a couple of small compartments .. and they look like the 80/81 westy cabinet finish …

i’m convinced the SYRO top was put on in europe … i can’t imagine someone here sourced a SYRO top and put it on a westy … i’m thinking maybe someone personally had it shipped to NA … it should be at my mechanic’s shop in a soon and i’ll go through it and grab all the papers I can find and see what I can learn ….

on my Facebook I posted a video of hauling it out ;) …
