Me too. I think part of the attrition is due to the fact that we don't say
what is just floating around on our minds until Friday, which cuts down on
general chatter, as not everyone has access on any particular day of the
week. Another thing is that after owning these cars as long as we have,
there is less general discussion about the things that go wrong with them
and more to-the-point guidance. I see that as a good thing. And then, of
course there is Facebook attrition from the list. I use FB because my job
requires it but I don't think all that much of it. In the Vanagon list, if
you are patient, you can find any fact about anything related to Vanagons.
With the list, your are putting your post into a huge, musty old library.
With Facebook, you are throwing your post into a fast-moving stream. Yes
you get images, but not for long. The list could be fixed in that respect
by allowing a server chron job to delete photos 48 hours after they are
posted, say, but the "purists" don't even want that. I suspect the
inability to share images is causing a lot of the attrition.
