The one on the '84 was a push-pull button that would pop out when it tripped. The guard was necessary, but a little too protective, so I made a couple windows to allow fingertips to reach it. As I recall the guard doubled as mounting nut. I don't know how many cycles the breaker was rated for (fifty would not be an unusual number for a pushbutton breaker) but I'm pretty sure the camper manual said it could be used as a switch.
