        The main concern would be to make sure it has the anti-drain back valve.  Look at the end of the filter with the threads and holes, beneath the holes there needs to be a rubber flap covering those holes.  If there is no rubber flap, then there is no anti-drain back valve.  A lot of VWs use what looks like and fits like a filter for a Vanagon.  Only the horizontally opposed water boxer engine needs the anti-drain back valve.  Stand up engines do not need it.  The VW part number for the water boxer oil filter is: 070 115 561
