Good luck getting that SVX motor past the referee. Vanagon engine conversions are now on their radar and very few are getting through without the proper approvals. The word came down from CARB to deny pretty much anything that doesn't have an EO (executive order).

I, as well, have had good reliability with the WB with 240K miles with engine and heads being original I certainly can't complain. I do, have an SVX engine I plane to do the transplant when I get an OEM exhaust system from a suitable donor so I can squeeze past the CA DMV referee..

I, personnally, enjoy all of the input from all angles of this list and wouldn't put off anyone for their contributions and biases included. If we want to keep these vehicles like any other long term project, the more the merrier.
