I wouldn't buy from Sears with the expectation of getting the tool replaced for free.
They're going to go under. You're watching the Titanic sink. Slowly over a long period.
People work it like they work the system. They swoop in with oodles of used tools in buckets, and get all brand new tools.
It's a racket. Like selling stolen copper. Maybe they read the obituaries of people from the Sears era and break into their homes.
However they do it, they do it.
Id rather buy a half way decent tool and just never-mind the guarantee.
Gear Wrench has some nice stuff. Wiha has some interesting stuff; their insulated screwdrivers are pretty nice. Actually bought both at Sears. But you can't rely on Sears.
Better to make use of Fastenal to round out your tools, and buy something you actually want to keep.
Snap-On might have a few alright items, but you're paying for the guy and his truck, and if he's not driving it to you, he didn't earn it.
Kmart can't even pick a color. They tried to marry red, yellow, and blue. The only time they owned yellow is when they hung a huge "Store Closing" banner above their entrance.
Kmart and Sears are two drowning swimmers trying to save each other in a sea of sharks. But they thrash better than they swim.
