No doubt, but they are apparently NLA. The VC hoses look like they are cut from a length of 1" hose: http://www.van-cafe.com/home/van_1427603303894/page_652_440/cooling-hose-the rmostat-to-cyl-see-description.html

This will be at least the third water pump on this rig, and the spring clamps are long gone. My experience is 1.9 pumps last about 80k and my van has 150k+ (speedo cable was broken when I bought it), so I'm due. I'll see if I can find some 1" EDPM hose I can buy by the foot.

Or maybe not: http://www.grainger.com/product/GATES-Heater-Hose-5NDF1 $6.90/ft. I guess if the VC stuff is EDPM I'll buy it, but I'll keep looking. That little hose to the head really gets cooked, and I think it's been responsible for many a meltdown.

From the factory they were special. This is a molded hose designed to be clamped. Cut hoses do not clamp properly throughout their length. Going cheap may get you the fun of dealing with them before the next water pump. Try a local NAPA. The better ones can get most of the IMC stuff and while may cost a little more you won’t have the shipping. Also note VW also went to the spring clamps on these hoses also.

I’ve always replaced the two short hoses connecting to the water pump when replacing the pump, but I can only find them from Van Café for $11 each. $50+ with shipping for about 6” of hose seems excessive. Is there something special about these, or can I find hose at NAPA that will work? One of them gets a lot of exhaust heat.
