It might be worth your while to check the network of fittings and hoses on the top of the gas tank, and the gas expansion tanks in the front wheel wells. From what I have read on the list, many Vanagons require a gas tank reseal to fix leaks that at first appear to be coming from nowhere. The parts houses sell kits with the required fittings and hoses for do it yourselfers. Vanagon mechanics seem to consider it a routine repair. Its appearing on the outside of the van from the gas cap area and downward. It has been too cold to do any work this spring so I have not taken a look at it deeply yet. I have an '83.5 but I have the later model "floaty ball" filler tube that I thought was supposed to stop this. Anyway, before I go taking out the filler tube, etc. what should I look for and are there any particur parts, gaskets, etc. I should replace just because I'm there? > I've tried multiple gas caps, its' not that. > > Thanks,Bryan |
