Annoying, isn't it?  I've tightened the pans on both the vans I work on and they still weep a bit.  One is even a recently rebuilt unit from German Transaxle.  I think there are too few bolts, and the sheet metal pan just deforms around the ones that are there and the seal breaks between them.

Next step for me is a LIGHT application of the "Right Stuff" to both surfaces and a new gasket.  You don't want any caulk squeezing into the pan where it can break off and cause all sorts of problems.

Does anyone wish to offer some clues or suggestions about how to install the bottom pan on a vanagon AT without leakage.
  Generally I have held to the belief that clean straight surfaces and a new gasket should be enough and silicone, etc. should not be needed.  In the case of my current project, however, I may have to conclude otherwise.
What works?
