In a nutshell, it's front engined, live axle, Jeep style transfer case, bigger brother to the Vanagon. During some years, they share platforms with the MB Sprinter. These are live (solid) axle trucks.

In the US, some diesel and turbodiesel cars "borrowed" their engines from the LT series. The early Mk1's shared their engine with the 924.
