You can guess the generation distribution of members here with this unique opportunity! Boomer (know) or Gen X (probably don't). There are likely few Millenials (who wouldn't know), they are all on Facebook. ;-)

You may be a dog on the Internet, but now we'll know if you are an old dog.

Stuart, old dog.

This list is over 20 years old. The listserv software is at least 15 years old. It does things in its own (old) fashion. Periodically confirming subscriptions seems to be one of those idiosyncrasies. When you receive a CONFIRM request, simply reply (or forward) to listserv@gerry.vanagon.com after removing everything from the original message except the bottom 3 lines.

I forward because my mail client doesn't add quote characters when I forward. listserv understands all characters in an email to be commands. Listserv doesn't understand the command "> COMMAND," the ">" character confuses it. Sometimes it gets so confused that it stops reading the command string.

Just send:

// JOB CONFIRM vanagon // EOJ

to

listserv@gerry.vanagon.com

and you'll be golden. You should receive a reply in a few minutes that confirms the command's successful execution.

Jim

I deleted mine as I assumed this list was configured like every other listserv out there :-(
