We've had a rash of fake cashier's checks used to buy vehicles in our area. Even if your bank accepts it, you are still at risk until the hold period. Unless I saw the person purchasing the cashier's check in my presence, I would accept it. For the record, what banks are calling "Official Check" are not certified funds unless they actually specify that they are. For ex. B of A has checks with notations saying it's a cashier's check once it exceeds a specified amount.
