I met with seller and decided to buy my (Samba sale) van on a Saturday morning of 2007, aware that I would need a lot of cash and my the bank would close at 2 PM. Since I would never carry that amount of cash, I had the seller take me to a branch in his area. They only had half the amount of cash that I needed, but located another branch that had the rest of it. We then went back to the seller's home, where I counted the cash and laid it out on the kitchen table. (His mother was at home, cooking, so I felt safe.) He handed me the title, but for some strange reason, would not give me a receipt, so I took a photo of all that cash laying on his table, so that at least I would have something besides my two bank receipts. I don't know why he wouldn't give me a receipt, but the sale was actually honest and clean. (The "seller" was the previous owner's mechanic.) I've always paid cash for vehicles privately sold, except for one purchase that had a bank lien on it. That, I paid with a personal check and there were no problems.
