I had the same situation with my Michelin LTX tires. Awesome 90% tread, signs of what was likely checking. Tires were OLD. For POV, I had Discount Tire install new Hankook RA08 tires. This is highly subjective, and the difference wasn't pronounced, but I feel they don't handle cross winds as well as the LTX. But I could be splitting hairs. Otherwise though, I feel they're good value. Bus Depot sells these IIRC.
