in modern times consideration must be taken for hitting pedestrians .. it affects the shape of the nose of cars in about the last 4 or so model years.

tho that may not apply to vans like it does to cars. Hood creases are often present as they stiffen the hood panel .. it's like 'adding free strength' ....as it doesn't require more or thicker material.
