Properly adjusted the throttle should not actually close off the flow. The stop should be adjusted so that the plate wont jam shut in the bore. You need to find out what is really wrong. Bad intake valves and worn guides can also cause symptoms similar to vacuum leaks.

I was reading up on this because I have my throttle body out at the moment and I was contemplating giving this a shot. The TB butterfly plate from my '84 is a little loose. The van runs ok so the little voice in my head says don't poke the bear! But I want it to run better and I'm bored!

So the JB Weld idea, (I'm assuming folks have heard of this), is that you are making that closed plate seal tight again, letting a little less air through at idle. And in turn a little less vacuum pulling fumes from your charcoal canister into the TB at idle.

Well, there is also a small hole in my butterfly plate. My question is, would closing up that hole in the butterfly plate not accomplish the same thing? Restricting the flow just a bit. Hopefully back close to the designed specs?

It just seemed like it would be a lot easier and the JB Weld idea makes me nervous. Obviously anything I put in that area would need to be super solid as to avoid the possibility of it coming off and making it's way into my engine!

Any thoughts? Is this even something worth contemplating at all or should I know when to say when and buy a rebuilt TB!?
