Emblem repair? I tried but so far the best is to buy a new one for about $50. Zoltan

I'm thinking about having my Westy painted, and would like to restore the front and rear emblems to as close to shiny chrome as possible. Has anyone tried this? Is there a particular brand paint and shade that bears a reasonable resemblance to chrome? Almost anything would be an improvement over faded gray emblems.

Can these emblems be removed and put back, or are they permanently attached, and unable to be removed without destroying them?
