Thanks people. I hadn't ruled out a leak but as pre a pmail and Jim's comment here, the leak may not be obvious. Though I may have been lax on checking this during recent weeks, while driving around town, the coolant level had remained ok. But this recent highway speed trip appeared to use up a lot of coolant.
