I once had a coolant leak that had me traveling with a jug of water and refilling at all kids of odd and dangerous spots. It was a real pain. I could never see evidence of a leak, anywhere inside or outside of the engine. One day I was on my way home after a day on the river where I lost my glasses in the water. When the car overheated on the way home, I had to pull out a magnifying glass to see anything in detail. The magnifying glass was so strong that it allowed me to see the tiny pinhole of spray for the first time. This was hitting the hot engine all that time and evaporating before it hit the ground.
