I had the same issue. I just reused the old switches since they were still working.

There will be a common terminal, a normally-open one, and a normally-closed one. You want common and NC, i.e. the pair that make contact when you push on the pedal. If that pair doesn't fit the configuration doesn't fit the Vanagon connector then you have a decision to make.
