Best to retain a connector shell if you can, but mostly for when it's not plugged in. If you can find a shell that has the right configuration and takes Fast-on terminals you can transfer them over. Ask Van-Cafe what they do.

If necessary (and possible) just pull one terminal and zip-tie it to the other so it's plain they're meant to be together. The switch doesn't care which wire goes to which terminal.
