The ŗPPO˛ (previous, previous owner :-)) did this on my van, too. Sadly, they didnšt think to mount it up under the pop-top, it instead runs along the gutter and is visible all the time. It is strong, however, and the awning material they used is very good - a kind of rubberized canvas. You do still have the fiddly process of setting up poles and ropes, and running the canvas (which has a stitched in cord on one side to form a bead that runs through the channel) is fiddly, too.
