Hi Jim,
The BD Easy Awning has optional parts that let you use it in different situations. If you were at a show with no grass you could attach the supports to the jack points. Or if you need to drive away and leave the awning you can purchase extra parts that let it free stand. when attached to the bus water stays out and the shade from the sun makes it very comfortable.
first time install seems complicated. After that it is a piece of cake.
I also prefer not to drill into the van or have something hanging outside.
