It wouldn't be great with my automatic transmission. I get a headache when stuck in traffic behind old diesel vehicles, and won't do that to anyone else.

50% more mileage. No electronics to fail, just one solenoid that can be replaced easily that turns off the fuel. Easy mods for more power, once the intercooler is added. The low end torque makes it much more drivable that a high-strung 'modern gas engine' that makes all of its power above 4000 rpm.

Stuart - you need to ride in a TDI set up like mine - you'd forget about that Subie idea. Way more torque than the Subie and 25-30 mpg. Torque max at 1900-2500, depending on the tuning. Ability to crawl over anything with barely any throttle input. Relaxed, guttural, soothing torque. :-)

BTW, this is NOT the same engine as any TDI from 1996-on - it is an engine option that was available in the Canadian market and Europe until 1996, when the TDI came out with far more power.
