Our Westy came with a Shady Boy when we bought it three years ago - it's never squeaked!
It does have to be properly tied down under windy conditions, but watching the guys in the campgrounds with the big rigs hurried retracting their awnings on windy days, I'd say the Shady Boy handles winds much better than most crank-out awnings.

If you buy a Shadyboy be sure to purchase the optional down poles and always (always) tie the awning down. I also recommend taking it down at the end of every day— it squeaks with any movement.
