Roger, I loved your story and had no idea the Vanagon List went back that far in time! I jumped aboard back around 97 when I bought my first Vanagon. I purchased it for $200 from a Greek Orthodox Priest who had well used it. It was an 85 and even by today's standards it was very beat up, and worn out. I sat in that driver's seat and imagined all of the adventure I could have driving a Vanagon... I never dreamed of all of the places I would actually go and see and drive Vanagons (coast to coast in a Westy, seeing one parked next to an apartment complex in Mongolia, meeting up with a long time list member that I had known for 15 years but just met in real life a couple of years ago in a Seattle KOA, driving a Vanagon in Belize and the Florida Keys). I didn't know that I would fall in love with this vehicle and the people that drive them so much that I started my own business and have been enjoying running it for 16 years now! Time flies when you are having fun. I have really enjoyed my time here on the List. I don't want it to end. I think the List can morph and change again, just like it did when it moved from paper and pencil form, to the internet, it is just going to take some love and patience to see that happen. I know there is thesamba.com but I really think that we can forge a new, better, faster, stronger List that will bring in new members and help us to continue to share the Love of the Vanagon on to a new generation. Sincerely, Ken Wilford John 3:16 www.vanagain.com
