Of course. If there's no movement there will be no wear. Short of magic or active chemical or biological** processes it's not going to change a lot. If it were compressed to the edge of yield strength then axial pressure on the wheels could tend to collapse it; but I doubt that's the case.

I am presently fascinated by the ligamentous process that suspends a tooth in its socket. In addition to its other functions, if subjected to steady axial pressure it will remove bone from one side of the socket and replace it on the other side until that pressure is relieved. Which is of course what braces and orthodontic headgear are all about, but it's more remarkable to me as process than as magic.
