Best way to use Facebook on a mobile device is with the “Friendly” app, which allows you to message within the app and not require a second app for that function.

Best way to use Facebook on a desktop is to use the Chrome browser (so you don’t have to have flash installed on the other browsers of your ‘puter). And to install AdBlock and AdBlockPlus so that you get rid of about 85% of the ads.
