Why would you sell your Vanagon???

Reminds me of a customer I had several years ago. It was during the beginnings of skyrocketing gas prices, and he bought a Diesel Rabbit with the idea of saving a mint with the advertised 50 MPG performance of the Rabbit diesel. Well his luck was not to be, first the original lower hose let go, and while it did not kill the motor it was wounded enough to be hard to start and miss. When I pulled the head and found a galled cylinder wall and stuck rings on #3. He opted for a patch up, hone/ re-ring/ valve job patch up. It was not to big of a loss as he was saving so much on his fuel bills. Next it was fifth gear, transmission rebuild. Still no big thing, fuel again. Then it was a series of small things, alternator, wiper motor, front wheel bearing. Saving fuel again. Then it happened......He let his daughter drive it one night, and the radiator must have started to leak, and she keep going till it locked up. Another tear down and this time it got the block and head! When I gave him the estimate, he just shook his head and said; ........ "No, .... No", I think I have "SAVED" enough money on this one", and I will sell it!

Skipper ;>)

>No, why would you sell your vanagon? ;-)
