Barring a one-off defect, we have not had any problems with these tanks and have sold them for years. However, there are three different versions with variations in inlet and outlet size. Not all Vanagons have the one that the fiche says they should have, as in some cases the tank was replaced at some point with a later style tank. (And of course without knowing the situation specifically, I can't completely rule out the possibility that you ordered one version but received another.) See what your mechanic says and them email Fred at sales@busdepot.com along with the markings on the box and any pictures that may be relevant. He will be able to tell you whether you have a different version from the existing tank in your Vanagon (which is my guess), or a defective tank (extremely rare), or a defective mechanic. :-)
