Hi all. Do some shops remove the big axle stub nut in order to save time (and lube bearing?) when servicing the rear brakes? If so, have others noted a tendency for this nut to be under torqued? When I bought my '81 Westy, it had a newer looking cotter pin at rear axle stub nut. I assumed a wheel bearing was replaced but saw no paper work for that job. (bus c/w a large folder of receipts) An archive search indicates that a little play at rear bearings is ok as long as the bearings aren't noisy. I recently noted what seems like an appreciable amount of play at a rear wheel bearing so am debating whether or not I should check if that nut is under torqued. Thanks, Neil.
