FWIW, I had my tint shop instal a relatively new ceramic tint on the inside of the front window. It reduced the infrared by 80% and - it is a very noticeable add-on to help fight the heat in SW FL.

Wasn't cheap but also had it installed on the inside of the sunroof on our 05 TDI beetle. Again the difference is remarkable. More info here.
