Subject: Solar Panel Controller Failure Cause? PICS (was: 'solar

Hi all.

A while ago, I'd posted about solar panel kit wire allowing water to creep down and into the controller. To what degree, I hadn't known til now. Some pics starting here:

I guess the simple suggestion is that if you have this type of wire, consider sealing it up, and-or cover it with the panel, or at least provide a drip loop.

The fuse on the circuit board appears ok but I was surprised to see that it may be a 35 Amp fuse, given the 10 Amp rating of this unit. However. I assume that fuse is for power coming in from the panel. The 10 Amp rating is for the load side? Anyhow. All that is way beyond my knowledge.

I'd thought I killed this unit by leaving it connected w/o a load, then letting sunlight hit the panel. This may not be true. Failure could have been due to corrosion. Then again, I'd sealed the wires some time ago but I don't recall if I'd used the panel after that. Thankfully, i didn't *see* any corrosion in the wires themselves.

Neil.
