I bought my 1985 Westfalia new and even then, the AC couldn't overcome a
Georgia summer.  Conditioned air blowing from a vent six feet behind the
front seats of a rolling greenhouse is a failed design from the start.  I
got a leak in the system years ago and didn't get it fixed because it
wasn't worth it.

It's not worth pulling out the AC to save weight or maybe even to create
more space, but I finally pulled mine to be able to see out the rear
window.  What a luxury to see more that the tailgater behind me!  I did
build a cabinet (there are a few pictures of it on a Samba thread I
created).  It was more complicated to build than I thought it would be.  I
made sure it did not interfere with the view through the rear window so
it's not very big, but that added space comes in very handy.

I don't ever plan to sell my camper so the resell value is not important.
The heirs to my fortune will lose out.  Too bad.
