AC on my 1991 Volkswagen Vanagon GL Campmobile with original 2.1 L waterboxer engine and converted AC (134a) has always worked great when it worked. Otherwise it just blows warm air. Usually a charge lasts a month or so in summer. When I embark on a trip, it may work great, but when I am on the way home and just cruising and using the air, well, the air is warm (or hot, depending on where I am).

Every time I have taken it in to mechanics, they always claim to have found "THE" leak, "It will be fine now." Well, yeah, it will be "NOW," with a new charge of coolant. But not later.

The conversion was meticulously done, with new dryer, all new seals, system fully evacuated, cleaned, and with the new oil and new charge of coolant. I even got a sticker on the compressor saying it is now a 134a system.

Oh well.
