Hi Patti, Sounds like a good idea running your GPS power wire index the dash and out the ash tray. My only caution would be to be sure that the power cord is readily removable. Don't route it so cleverly that you can't get it out easily. The reason is that if you need to use your GPS in another car, for whatever reason, (and there always seems to be one,) then you can make the switch in a hurry and without much fuss. I have a 7" Garmin Nuvi 2979 with traffic and lifetime maps and it's awesome! Mike M
