I was a sign painter and pinstriper for twenty years, working on some really expensive concours and race cars, and mineral spirits won't touch hardened auto paint. Now, if by 'paint thinner' anyone means lacquer thinner or the like, AVOID!

Personally I'd go to an auto paint store and get DuPont Prep-Sol or another professional product designed to remove wax.

This is OT… but if you ever need to remove sign or similar paint from a finish, believe it or not, Easy Off oven cleaner is your friend. But there's some tricks so if anyone needs to know, email me at EW@EricWunrow.com — or risk hating me and forever my advice. We live full-time in an '84 Westy so don't check in here often.

Which reminds me… bus runs like hell after getting water in gas, post with questions soon...
