Subject: Camping at a music festival
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed

Hey all, I just got back from camping at the 4 Peaks Music festival in Central Oregon where I had a chance to help the local community radio station set up a live audio stream of the event. Had a great time!

Tech had to get there a couple days before the festival went live, so there I was in a sweet spot in the meadow, with cars and trucks arrived to pitch tents and plant trailers.

Now, this was my first music festival, but I gotta say, that the way I rig my Westy made it fit right in as something a festival veteran would do (this, according to many many comments) -- the solar setup brought many questions and gave me "green" & "tech" cred.

There were probably three dozen Vanagons, at least two dozen were Westys. Also a smattering of Eurovans (boo) and maybe five bay windows cherried out for display camping. And one splittie.

So many people came up to me and talked about how they used to own a Westfalia and -- here's the deal: all their memories were fond, and to a person they all regretted that they sold theirs.

And stories about this one time we went camping with our kids and found this great lake, or the van broke down outside Salt Lake City and some guy who stopped helped them with a place to stay while they got the van fixed.

These really are wonderful vehicles. And, as I have learned, well-suited for music festival camping. -- Jack "Rocket j Squirrel" Elliott 1984 Westfalia, auto trans, Bend, Ore.
