Agree with everyone else, leave it in!

The most common failure point is the pressure side line from the compressor to the front of the van. Change that, and you will likely hold a charge... and always replace the receiver/dryer whenever your system has been dead for a while.

I've got a non-working AC in my Westy and wondered about pulling it out but am concerned about the interior appearance afterward. For those of you who've seen/done one after the pull, did it look presentable or was there a lot of cosmetic rework required?
