Fan has to have power to the box it's mounted to, and two wires from the switch on the wall to that same box. Then you can split two legs off the power to the box, one to the fan motor and the other to the switch, and back to the fan light. If power goes to the switch box, you need three wires from the box to the fan mounting box, i.e. 14/3. Neutral, hot, and switched. Fan will need to be built with three wires up the shaft, one white (neutral) and two for powering the fan and light. And there will likely be a ground wire to. Can I ask a question about installing a room ceiling fan to this forum? We are having issues with explaining ourselves to the contractor. Here is the deal I need a hand with a remodeling issue. We need to wire a new fan in my daughters bedroom. I would like the fan to be control by the pull chain only (at the fan) and the lights on the fan to be control by a switch / dimmer. Do any of you electrical or DIY types have a diagram (or link) that represents what I am writing? 1 fan variable speeds (always hot) control by pull chain. light kit attached to fan control ed by light switch and dimmer.
I appreciate any responses directly to me to not obstruct the system if that is ok with MOds? Thank you, T |
