Subject: Shift linkage BROKE and floating

Hey y'all, I'm in a sad mood today. I handed my van to a valet in hollywood last night. (yeah, I know. Stupid. We were late for a show, my girl was in a sad mood all day over something else. Just had to get where I was going)

The valets broke the shifter. I think he was trying to get it into reverse at the time... I crawled under it while waiting for a tow. In the little steel box under driver's floor, the joint between shifter handle, and main linkage seems to be off a track. There's a (approx) 1" flange inside there that appears to guide the shifter handle.

I can't get into any gear. The shifter handle was stuck up near the radio... Very unnatural, like a broken elbow.

Bummer because the van was running so well. I had the tranny rebuilt in Novem, ber, and the guy did a beautiful job... new Weddle 4th gear (4.17) new Weddle 3/4 slider hub. It really kicks it now! Cruises at 75mph @ 3500 rpm.

Anyone ever have this issue? The shifter detaching, or really coming off its guide track? vinnie
