Patti, Your idea to insulate the pop top is the most sensible in this thread. Several years ago when I lived further south I did this on a westy. I used a sheet of 3/4" thick polyurethane insulation (this is the denser, non-crumbly rigid insulation you'll find in building stores. Dow makes one brand). I cut it so it was a tight press fit inside the pop top. I don;t recall if I made any other arrangements to fasten it, or if it stayed in by itself. It can be made to look better by glueing on a cloth that matches the color and texture of the pop-top inside.
