No drain plug. Most of us begin draining the trans by loosening the dipstick tube. Dennis

Is there a drain plug? Don't know about auto transmissions in Vanagons. I've mounted the sender in the drain plug of transmissions in the past...You can then simply remove the wire before you drain the tranny and...you get right into the fluid. No risk drill shavings in the tranny when you drill and tap the drain plug to take the temp. sender.

You may scare yourself when you see the real temps down there....
