We used it the same way I used a fixture with a naked stoplight bulb on the boat, for intensegalley or task lightig for a few minutes at a time. For overall illumination we used a clip-on gooseneck lamp with a narrow-beam PAR-tpe seven-watt CFL floodlight running off a fanless 100-watt inverter, took less than an amp from the battery IIRC. Clipped to the H-brace it lit the whole cabin, or you could have it closer by for reading or to darken part of the cabin.
